Recent research studies report that VOIP is ramping up in the SMB market. Moreover, SMB's already leveraging VOIP to their benefit report "significant satisfaction" with it.

 

(By the way - just so we're all on the same page - SMB refers to a small to medium business that is larger than a sole proprietor or home-based business but not as large as a major corporation.)

A number of recent studies say that businesses of all sizes are adopting VOIP and SMB companies, in particular, are rapidly expanding their use of it.  

One research study finds that VOIP is being used by 36 percent of large companies surveyed, 23 percent of midsize companies and 14 percent of small companies – and that all categories are rapidly adopting it.  Further, VOIP use in North America is projected to triple by 2010 among SMB’s, as these companies frequently rely on technology innovation to help level the playing field between them and their larger competitors.  

 

Another study, verifies that the vast majority of SMBs that have deployed VOIP systems are satisfied with them. The research is based on surveys with 560 SMB decision makers.  It found that VOIP met the expectations of 71 percent of those surveyed – and twenty-two percent said their systems exceeded their expectations. Among the key reasons cited for this high degree of satisfaction are a lower cost of 
ownership and better system management.
